What is mindset coaching? This question may cross our mind when we first come across mindest coaching and we wonder whether it can help us with our own personal dreams and goals.
As of 2023, the coaching industry is growing exponentially and is predicted to continue to increase in the future as people recognise the value it brings us for personal growth and transformation.
This is true right across the board, from life coaching to career coaching, fitness coaching and relationship coaching, or in this case – mindset coaching.
So what exactly is mindset coaching and what can it give us that we can’t achieve on our own?
Is it even valuable? Or is it a waste of our resources?
In this post, we’re going to dive into all these questions and more as we unravel just what mindset coaching really is, and how it can lead us to achieve the results we seek through personal transformation.
So if you’re wondering whether mindset coaching is for you, you’ve come to the right place.
And without further ado, let’s get started and start with what mindset coaching is not.
What Mindset Coaching is Not
First of all, let’s get it out of the way that mindset coaching is not a form of medical therapy.
Mindset coaching is a system that provides support and structure to . . .
- Identify limiting beliefs
- Reframe negative beliefs into positive empowering ones
- Identify chosen destinations
- Create specific achievable goals to achieve the desired results
- Provide support, motivation and accountability for achieving personal transformation and growth.
A mindset coach has experience in asking the right questions to support someone to discover their own limiting beliefs and find the true choices they want to make in their lives to get them to where they want to be.
Mindset coaching supports us in achieving our goals and discovering a life that’s in alignment with our higher self as well as increasing our sense of joy and gratitude.
Mindset coaching can also help us navigate difficult situations, like losing a job, receiving an unexpected diagnosis dealing with our partner’s infidelity, creating a more meaningful relationship or getting divorced to name just a few.
Mindset coaching isn’t being told what to do, how to do it or when to do it.
The role of the coach is to be 100% for the client, to hold space for the client and allow the client to discover their own truths – not to impose truths upon them.

Your coach should resonate with you if they are to be effective in supporting your transformation.
As for the ability of the coach, it’s wise to do some online research – check them out by looking at their social media profiles, blogs, videos or other platforms where they share themselves.

How Does Mindset Coaching Work?
Mindset coaching can bring about life-changing transformations.
Just imagine somebody who desperately wants to give up smoking finding themselves not only smoke-free but positively revelling in their new life as a non-smoker.
How amazing would that feel?
Or how about the person who wants to make deep changes to the way they see themselves – going from no self-confidence to feeling 100% confident and harnessing their own inner power?
These are just two examples of how life-changing coaching can be, but how does it work?
Here we take a look at some of the things which happen during mindset coaching sessions.
Spotlight on Limiting Beliefs
One of the first steps in a mindset coaching session is to identify our limiting beliefs.
We all harbour subconscious, negative limiting beliefs (to varying degrees), and by becoming aware of what they are so can we reframe them and transform them to empower us instead of debilitate us.
This is possibly one of the most powerful steps of all because only when we truly see something for what it is can we begin to transform it.
When we recognise that we’re limiting our own success by acting from a place of restrictions or fear, due to our deeply held limiting belief, then we can start to reframe that belief and empower ourselves.
However, this process isn’t about trying to remove the belief – by shining a light on it we automatically shift our perspective somewhat (because we’ve become aware) and from there we can shift even further by intentionally recognising the flaws in the belief and creating a more empowering story to replace our old one.
Reframe Our Limiting Beliefs
Sometimes when we’ve had a hurtful experience our subconscious mind will create a story around that experience in order to protect ourselves.
Often this kind of protection is counter-productive and leads to negative consequences.
For example, a child who suffered from favouritism in the household: that child might see his or her parents giving apparently ‘more love’ to their sibling and come away with the story (deeply held belief) that they aren’t good enough.
They will carry that story around with them until one day they recognise it and intentionally tear it down and transform it into a new belief.
By taking responsibility and recognising that we have created a story, we liberate ourselves from the belief that we created.
Coaching doesn’t change the actual factual history – the sibling may well have been the subject of favouritism, but as an adult, we can recognise that there were many other factors at play.
And that just because our parents favoured our siblings, doesn’t mean that we aren’t good enough.

Discovering New Perspectives
Perhaps our parents were going through stress. Or maybe our sibling was poorly and in sick health so our parents became more protective of him/her.
And even if our parents truly did favour our sibling for no apparent reason, we don’t need to believe that it’s because we aren’t good enough.
We can tell ourselves whatever we choose, once we are aware and can take responsibility for our own reactions to our life experiences.
From the moment that we recognise our part in the story, the conclusions we drew, the reactions we had, then we can begin to feel more empowered.
We can start to throw out the deep-seated limiting belief that we’re somehow not good enough.
And as we begin to challenge the belief, our results begin to reflect the deep inner shift from negative thought patterns to more positive and growth-oriented ones.
Personalized Support
Throughout the process, as a coach, their priority is to support their clients 100% as we shift into empowerment.
A mindset coach works closely with the person to understand our specific challenges, situations and aspirations.
Every person and every situation is unique and each coaching session is individual for those specific criteria.
Goal Setting and Action Plans
Once we’ve identified the long-term goals, the mindset coach works together with the client to set achievable goals each week.
The step-by-step approach keeps motivation high and facilitates real change.
In this way, we can change unwanted habits, focus on positive advancement, increase success, boost confidence etc.
Accountability and Motivation
A mindset coach acts as an accountability partner to help keep us on track and motivate us on our path to success, a vital part of optimum results.
Every journey will have its ups and downs or valleys as they say, and it’s during those valley moments that a mindset coach can make the difference between forging forward or feeling like giving up.
